Kandi Chavis

Kandi Chavis is recognized as a prominent community leader and serves on the Board of Partners for Success, Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club, and Stephens County Head Start. She has served as a church youth group and Girls Club counselor for a combined six years. She has taught several Sunday school classes from pre-K to adult career level. God has done a marvelous work in her life by healing her of stage 4 uterine cancer which serves as the core of her very moving testimony. Her mission is to help others transcend what they might view as insurmountable situations and assist them in achieving their greatest level of success and personal fulfillment.

Mrs. Chavis has enhanced the lives of others by serving the public for 18 years. She worked with the Stephens County Tax Commissioner, the Stephens County Department of Family and Children Services and, most recently, the Northeast Georgia Housing Authority (NEGAHA) as Resident Services Manager. She has designed and implemented multiple empowerment programs to help low income citizens become more independent and prepared to join the workforce. Mrs. Chavis integrated a full family growth and development plan for her residents which involved health, education, and employment skills training. She was awarded the 2006 Georgia Association of Housing and Redevelopment’s Collaborative Partnership Award for the Stephens County Read At Home initiative which is a childhood literacy program. She received the same honor in 2005 for the “Clothes for Kids Campaign” which provided clothing and school supplies for her residents and foster children in Stephens County. She also initiated and led the effort to establish a Section 3 business, Moving Up, LLC. This is a business that is owned and operated by low and very low income individuals who were previously unemployed and are now making up to $24,000 annual income.

Mrs. Chavis has worked with social service organizations, community groups, churches, and government agencies to link individuals with resources to meet their needs and help them achieve and maintain self-sufficiency. A key strength is her ability to identify service gaps and to respond with innovative and collaborative efforts to ensure those gaps are filled through educational, social and spiritual resources.
